Pierrot and Pierrette are characters from popular Italian theatre in the 1500's and became a famous opera and was commemorated as a button that people would wear on their opera cape or other clothes during the Victorian era. This button has a wonderful 3-D quality to it that makes it interesting to look at. The crescent moon surrounding the characters on stage is the iconic scene from the opera. The pin has two pins on back to make a secure attachment to the fabric.
